Thimbleweed, also known as tall anemone, is a graceful native perennial of meadows, open woodlands, and sunny edges. In summer, it produces delicate white flowers held above softly textured foliage, followed by distinctive thimble-shaped seed heads that give the plant its common name.
As the seasons shift, thimbleweed becomes especially striking. Its persistent seed heads and upright stems remain standing through autumn and winter, often rising elegantly above the snow and adding quiet structure to the winter landscape.
This is a wonderful plant for native plantings, pollinator gardens, and naturalized areas. It blends beautifully with grasses and other wildflowers and supports local biodiversity while requiring very little maintenance once established.
Planting instructions:
Seeds benefit from cold stratification. Sow outdoors in fall for natural overwintering, or winter sow in pots left outside under snow. Spring sowing is possible if seeds are cold stratified for 4–8 weeks in moist conditions before planting. Prefers full sun to light shade and well-drained soils.
Seed count:
At least 25 seeds per packet.
