Stinging Nettle (Urtica)

Stinging nettle is a delicious and highly nutritious plant when simply blanched or steamed. It’s one of the very first edible plants you can harvest in abundance in early spring—often a full month before anything else is ready in the garden. Nettle is also a well-known medicinal plant. 

Harvest with gloves, then rinse in cool or warm water to neutralize the sting. If you do get stung while harvesting, rubbing a curly dock leaf on the spot helps relieve the sting.
