Preferences: moist soil, but also sandy soil. It produces clusters of red berries. The berries sweeten over the winter. Food for Cedar Waxwings and other birds. The raw berries are tart, but they make excellent jellies and syrups. It can be confused with Viburnum opulus var. opulus, the European variety, but the main difference is that the European variety drops its fruit early, while Viburnum opulus var. americanum keeps its fruit all winter long, and you can even see dried fruits from two years or more earlier, still hanging from its branches. Zones 2 to 7. Height 3 to 4 m. This seed requires cold stratification to germinate. Sow in autumn directly in the ground, or in pots outdoors during the winter. Alternatively, keep the seeds in the refrigerator for at least two months, then sow in spring in pots or directly in the ground.
At least 15 seeds per packet.
