Calendula / Pot marigold (Calendula officinalis)

Calendula / Pot marigold (Calendula officinalis) is an edible flower with bright, cheerful blooms. The petals are delicious added fresh to salads or stirred into rice and other dishes for colour and a mild, slightly peppery flavour. The flowers can also be dried and infused into oils to make skin creams and salves.

Calendula is an excellent companion plant for most vegetables, helping repel certain pests while attracting pollinators and beneficial insects. It is a fast-growing annual and can sometimes grow faster than your vegetables, so be sure to give it enough space.

It prefers full sun to light shade and well-drained soil, but is very adaptable. It blooms continuously when harvested regularly and readily self-seeds, even in colder climates, making it an easy and rewarding plant to grow year after year.
