A good-sized, oval watermelon. Red, sweet, and juicy flesh—absolutely delicious. Early ripening, ideal for cool, short seasons. Watermelons can be sown directly, but I prefer to start them in 4-inch pots and transplant them when the soil has warmed up. Here in zone 5b, this is done in mid-June, about two weeks after all risk of frost has passed. Space the plants 30 to 45 cm apart. They can be grown on mounds to help the soil warm up faster. Watermelons appreciate mulch, which keeps the soil moist and warm and encourages root development along the vine. You can further enhance this by gently covering the vine (but not the leaves) with mulch.
At least 50 seeds per packet.
