Cherokee Purple — Heirloom Beefsteak Tomato
Solanum lycopersicumIndeterminate

Cherokee Purple is one of the most beloved heirloom tomatoes, renowned for its deep, dusky colour and rich, complex flavour. This indeterminate variety produces steadily throughout the season and benefits from strong support and good airflow.

The large, beefsteak-type fruits ripen to a deep purplish-red with green shoulders, sometimes appearing almost smoky. Inside, the flesh is soft, juicy, and intensely flavourful, offering a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity with earthy, old-fashioned tomato notes. A favourite for fresh slicing, sandwiches, and salads where flavour truly matters.

Why grow Cherokee Purple?

  • Exceptional, full-bodied flavour loved by tomato connoisseurs
  • Large, juicy fruits with striking, unusual colour
  • Indeterminate growth for extended harvests

Growing tips
Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost. Transplant after the last frosts and provide sturdy staking or cages, as plants can grow tall and heavy with fruit. Full sun, rich soil, and consistent watering help bring out the best flavour.

At least 25 seeds per packet.
